Savvy blancs: Australia’s Top 20 Sauvignon Blancs
Love it or hate it, sauvignon blanc is Australia’s top choice white wine. Or any wine, actually. And the biggest sellers come from across the Ditch in what Australian winemakers bemoan as a Sauvalanche that engulfs local offerings. Luckily for them, Kiwi sauvvies struggle to make our lists thanks to a mathematical handicap arising from their smaller and fewer wine shows. Still, local sauvignons shouldn’t be discounted. Some are starting to score big on the Australian wine show circuit. With just a few shows left to report this year, we’ve put together our interim list of the Top 20 sauvignon blancs in Australia this year. And, just in case you’re wondering, our top Kiwi – which sits outside the Top 20 – the one we quietly picked last year as that country’s best: Leefield Station.
