Australia’s Top 50 cabernet sauvignons: coming soon

Posted on Nov 6, 2016

After popular demand – well, one request really – we’ve decided our next list will be the noblest of grapes: cabernet sauvignon. But this Top 50 list won’t be about the winner; it will all be about who came second. nv_deep_woods_reserve_cab_sauv1And third and fourth. That’s because there wouldn’t be a bookie in town offering odds on the Deep Woods Estate Reserve 2014. It has swept all before it this year with an exclusive haul of golds at the Royal Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne shows where it won the Jimmy Watson trophy. It also took gold at the WA Wine Awards. But you’d be lucky to get your hands on any even when the wine is eventually released. Owners Fogarty Wines are only taking “expressions of interest” now from its wine list members who’ll likely have to pay more than $60/bottle for the small allocation they’ll receive. That’s why this list is really all about placegetters 2-10. But don’t feel like you’ll be getting a dud with these wines. They’ll be striding a list of more than 3000 ratings from 47 shows and, frankly, coming second in a list like that means getting 96 points instead of 95 at a big show. We’re burning the midnight oil as we speak. Watch out for our Top 50 Cabernet Sauvignons soon.
